About Us

Kimonos And More

We sell discounted kimonos that are best suited for upcycling or leisurely use, as they have damage and/or have patterns and styles that aren't super popular outside Japan. Many hours of work were put into each kimono, so we'd like these to experience a second life with people who have interesting upcycling ideas, know how to clean kimonos, or want to try out kimonos at a discount.

We are working with kimono retailers in Japan to decrease the number of kimonos that are being thrown in the trash instead of being sold. The cost of cleaning a kimono is usually many hundreds of dollars or euros more than simply buying a kimono that has never been damaged. Kimono retailers will oftentimes discard kimonos that have stains instead of trying to find new homes. We hope that our discounted prices will convince people to experiment with upcycling or practice wearing kimonos.

Our goals:

  • Expand the understanding of kimonos and kimono fabrics across the world
  • Provide new homes for thousands of kimonos to keep them away from incinerators
  • Allow people with limited incomes to learn about kimonos hands on

Our team

We are people in the retail kimono industry hoping to breathe new life into kimonos across the world.

This online store is a part time effort and likely will earn us little revenue, so we aren't able to answer questions or provide much information about our products. Please be understanding that our focus is on other ventures. That said, we will ship orders out within 3 business days straight from Kyoto, Japan.

Kimono Ideas

Upcycling Kimonos

Try upcycling kimonos into scarves, shirts, quilts, or wall decor. Most silk kimonos can't be washed, so purchasing our kimonos will be a great way for you to try out new ideas and learn the intricacies of sewing with various types of silk. Since you're upcycling the fabric, we suggest that you perform burn tests to figure out the fabric content. You can also use these kimonos to try out cleaning methods.

Wearing Kimonos

One of the biggest worries about wearing kimonos is damaging them while venturing outside, so you can use our kimonos to be more comfortable while eating or being in riskier weather. Once you're more comfortable wearing kimonos out in public, we suggest finding other kimonos in pristine condition and with more extravagant designs than what we typically offer.
